Feb. 13th, 2012

Tuesday February 7, 2012. Attended my precinct DFL caucus. (DFL: Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, though there's not much left of the Farmer-Labor Party this long after the merger.)

The Presidential nomination ballot had two choices: Barack Obama and Uncommitted.

Convener chosen; one candidate, approved unanimously.

Various kinds of delegates chosen, mostly unanimously. I will be a delegate to the state senate district convention.

Four resolutions introduced. Passed unanimously.

Candidates nominated for several offices. All chosen unanimously.

Presidential nominating ballots counted. Obama won, but Uncommitted got a few votes.

(Minnesota doesn't have Presidential primaries. However, there are both caucuses and primaries for various other offices. Party caucuses make recommendations for primaries -- including those for nonpartisan offices.)

I suspect the Republican caucuses were livelier.
A leftwing political position: Every Englishman above the rank of servant should have the vote.

Well, it WAS a radical left position around the time of the English Civil War.

A rightwing political position: Stalin's legacy should be honored. As I understand it, this is what some Russian conservatives believe.

Fifty years from now, both left and right will hold positions which might be unthinkable today.
