Aug. 16th, 2010 21:35Sunday August 15, 2010 To Penzeys spice store in Uptown, for the first time in a while. Spent more than I'd intended.
The current catalog leads off with a new mixture: Arizona Dreaming. Associated editorial writing sounds as if they're not entirely pleased with Arizona's new immigration law.
To Lunds, for the Speculative Fiction Writers Meetup. Before I went up to the community room, I snacked on several free food samples. Then I bought my lunch, to eat during the Meetup.
Topic of this Meetup: "Using Ancient Mysteries." Which turned out to be mostly about folklore and myth, rather than the Akashic Records etc.
During Terry Faust's presentation, I found myself thinking about political ideologies as magic systems. "Pass this law, and the problem will be solved forever." "The right mixture of tax reductions and tax increases will ensure prosperity."
After the presentation and discussion, I got myself signed up to do one on prediction, on some Sunday in November. Mostly on futurology and such; but if someone attends who's a knowledgeable astrology buff, for example....
