Sep. 13th, 2010

Sunday September 12, 2010 To the Lunds supermarket in Uptown, for the MnSpec Meetup. [Minnesota Speculative Fiction Writers]

Topic: Reading of short work by members. Attendance was low; but stories, poetry, and an excerpt from something longer did get read. And there were comments I thought likely to be useful.

Observation: two short-haired, cleanshaven men, two bearded men with longer hair. A story written in the last century, and set in this, might have had either kind of male style. But not both.

***On my way home, stopped at Mercado Centro to buy blue tortillas from Tortilleria la Perla.

I could get a thirtysix-pack of tortillas eleven cents cheaper. But straight from the factory is fresher than brought in from Oregon. And supermarkets charge extra for blue tortillas.

****I did not attend the Anarchist Book Fair in Powderhorn Park, today or yesterday. This saved me from having to suppress the urge to ask "Why is this event on government property?"

***From a somewhat tedious Usenet thread:

"No. Tourists are not flocking to Utah to buy ketchup and mayonnaise mixed together."

My reply: Obviously, this calls for a tourism campaign. I would suggest it to
the Utah state government; but they never replied to my suggestion of
"Come to Utah for the coffee and liquor!"
