Thought experiment: A national teleport network is constructed. Using it costs as much as you now pay for local travel. Where would you go grocery shopping? (Note: It's national only. If you're in the US and you want to shop in Paris, you'll have to: teleport to Canadian border; cross border; take Canadian teleport network to where you can get a boat to St. Pierre & Miquelon; take the French network to Paris.)
